Conflict Resolution Programs

  • PDF

Conflict is normal. We may not like it, but its part of life, and that's not going to change. Conflict isn't necessarily something to be avoided. In fact, it can prove highly productive. Conflict signals the presence of diverse points of view, which in struggle or reconciliation can spark creativity, nourish growth, jump-start productivity, and strengthen relationships. A life without conflict is probably less peaceful than bland.

Most of us experience abundant opportunities for conflict. From the breakfast table to the bedroom, in the Church e.t.c .a hundred little things each day can lead to discord—and for a variety of reasons, most of which are natural and unavoidable.

Conflict Resolution Ministries at GOA

  • Establishing a leadership team; we are supposed to have a leader of conflict resolution in every region whose role is to co-ordinate functions that promote peace in their respective regions.
  • Seminars and conferences; such seminars could be family seminars, inter-tribal ones, organizational seminars e.t.c whose main focus would be on how to deal with conflict within their places like in families, church, places of work. We managed to hold a number of family life seminars in different regions last year.
  • Cultural day; we held a cultural day last year whose main aim was to display the beauty of cultural diversities. Different people were dressed in their traditional attires, cooked their food which was shared by others, songs were sung in different mother tongues. Such functions can be carried out in churches in different ways for the purpose of helping people to appreciate others.
  • Counseling; This area has been very active and helpful in promoting peace in different ways;
    • handling individual cases, people with different issues share them, after sharing and helping the individuals, we have witnessed changes and restoration of peace among the people. A recent case was a person who gave her life to Christ through the counseling session.
    • Pre- marital counseling has been taking place quite well; we have witnessed many going through the sessions and have been witnesses in their weddings. I have been able to work with some people in this area and more couples have received the counsel
  • Conflict resolution in other departments: Sports evangelism has been in the fore front in dealing and promoting issues of conflict in different ways, e.g having sports among people of different tribes like the most recent one which was held among the Kisii and the Luo people. As pastors and other leaders we normally handle disputes among the people we lead, family conflicts find their way to the pastor’s, among others
